Season 2004 to 2005 Review

Whilst training a group of kids at the Saturday club, it became apparent that there were enough kids, with enough
talent to start my own team. We all nervously got together and started training as a squad and working hard towards
the start of our very first season, a season where nobody knew what would happen, how we would get on, would we be
successful, would we fall apart at the seams? Kick off arrived at our very first game, a 3-0 loss, was this how it would
be every week for our new team!! No - our next 4 games we were unbeaten and playing like a team that had played together
for years. Going well in the top 3 of the league brought the cup rounds, which we went through easily and confidently in the first
rounds. Leading onto the semi-final, a home tie against Seaton Superstars a team that had already beaten us in the league.
Kick off brought a very exciting end to end game with the final score 1-1 and extra time looming and nerves shattered.
Half time of extra time and still no score, then out of no where ryan Jennings with a brilliant solo run and finish to send us
into the final. The squad and their families were ecstatic. To be in our very first final in our very first season was a great
achievement. Back to the league and we continued to play well and hold our own and a very pleasing 3rd place finish brought the season to an
end with just the final to play. Unfortunately a defeat to Spraire Lads, going 2-0 behind at half time was always going to be
hard to come back, but we battled the whole game and a goal from Jack Hubbard 2 minutes from the end gave us a glimmer of hope,
but sadly it was not to be. On the season as a whole, with Luke Mabbott winning the league award for the most man of the matches
and a 16 goal haul for Ryan Jenning in his first ever team brought great joy to me and everybody involved.
I'd like to say a special thanks to every parent for helping and most importantly supporting me and the team week in week out.
Grateful thanks goes to Paul of Paul Smithson Builders and Brian the landlord of the Cleveland Bay pub. Finally I would like to thank everyone of my squad for their commitment to training and playing football for Redcar Town and I am already looking forward to next season!
